Night Market
Attraction
It is a popular local night market located off the main tourist routes of Siem Reap. It is known for its authentic atmosphere and a huge number of local dishes served in numerous street stalls. Here you can find authentic Khmer delicacies, including amok (a fish dish steamed in coconut milk), duck eggs (balut), fried insects (crickets, cockroaches, spiders), fried bananas, as well as a variety of soups and barbecue. This market is a great place to immerse yourself in Cambodia’s culinary culture and taste food the way the locals do.
The fair also offers a variety of goods, from clothing and accessories to toys, but the main attraction of the market is the food. Here you can see local families coming to eat and relax, sitting on mats on the ground, which adds to the authentic Khmer atmosphere.
It’s a great place for adventurous foodies who want to try unusual dishes like fried insects or duck eggs. If you’re looking for more traditional food, try the noodles, kebabs, or mango sticky rice. Since this is a predominantly local market, prices are significantly lower than in tourist areas and it’s a great place to eat economically.
It is worth bringing some cash with you as most vendors do not accept credit cards. It is also recommended to bring napkins or wet wipes as there are no full service restaurants in the market. Be careful with your belongings due to the large number of people, especially during peak hours.
Street 60 is busiest in the evening. The market usually starts around 17:00 and continues until late at night, around 22:00-23:00. The best time to visit is after sunset, when the mild evening temperature allows you to comfortably enjoy food and walks.
