Recommendation, Planning Your Bali Trip

Preparing for a trip to Bali: basic tips

With these simple tips, you can easily organize a trip to Bali and avoid unforeseen difficulties.

When to go to Bali

Bali is a year-round vacation destination, but the choice of time depends on your preferences. The dry season from May to October is considered the best time to travel, especially from July to September. During this time, the weather is comfortable with minimal rain, making it ideal for beach vacations and surfing on the west coast, where the waves are more stable and more suitable for experienced surfers. During this period, the most active spots are Uluwatu, Padang Padang, Changgu and Seminyak.

The rainy season, which lasts from November to April, has its advantages, although the weather can be humid and hot. Frequent rains turn nature into a real green oasis – waterfalls become more full, and jungles and rice terraces look even brighter. For surfing, the eastern coasts, such as Nusa Dua, Sanur and Keramas, are better suited during this season, where the waves are smaller and softer – a great choice for beginners.

The average temperature in Bali throughout the year ranges from 27-32°C, and the evenings are pleasantly cool.

Visa and travel documents

  • Many countries offer the possibility of obtaining a visa on arrival for up to 30 days, which can be extended for another 30 days. You can also apply for such a visa online for about $35. Be sure to check if you need to apply for a visa in advance.
  • Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry to the island, otherwise you may have problems at the border.
  • Health insurance is a must for visiting Bali, especially if you plan to engage in outdoor activities such as surfing or trekking – choose a policy with the appropriate coverage.
  • To enter, you will need a return ticket and confirmation of your accommodation reservation.

Flight to Bali

Denpasar Airport (DPS) is Bali’s main international airport, where most flights from around the world arrive. It is most convenient to fly with transfers via major Asian hubs such as Singapore, Kuala Lumpur or Jakarta.

It is better to organize a transfer to the hotel in advance. You can book a taxi through your hotel or use the services of official taxis in Bali through the popular Grab and Gojek apps, which offer a convenient way to hail a taxi via smartphone at affordable prices. Download these apps in advance to be able to quickly book a ride right at the airport.

Safety and health

In Bali, it is important to be attentive to safety and health. If you rent a scooter, be sure to wear a helmet as the traffic on the island is very heavy and the roads are often chaotic. Left-hand traffic and heavy traffic may seem unusual for those who are used to right-hand traffic.

Also, be careful of mosquitoes as they can carry dengue. Use repellents, especially in the evening when mosquito activity increases.

As for water, drink only bottled water, even for brushing your teeth, to avoid health problems. Local food is delicious, but start with caution, especially if your stomach is not used to spices and new foods.

To exchange money, choose only licensed exchangers with the “Authorized Money Changer” sign. Check the exchange rate and don’t forget that some places may charge additional fees. If you don’t want to look for exchangers, you can withdraw money from ATMs, but be sure to check the conditions and fees, and choose ATMs near bank branches.

Do not leave valuables unattended, even on the beach or in a restaurant. Lock the doors in your villa or hotel room. Hotels often have safes, so don’t forget to use them to store important documents and money.

Practical tips before you go

Before traveling to Bali, it is important to be prepared to avoid unforeseen situations. Start by making copies of important documents such as your passport, visa, and insurance, and keep them separately from the originals. This will help in case of loss or theft.

It’s also a good idea to download offline maps of Bali via Google Maps or other apps, as some remote areas or beaches may have weak mobile internet.

To save money on communication, buy a local SIM card. Operators such as Telkomsel or XL offer favorable internet and call plans, and it will be more convenient for you to stay connected.
